Using the open sights, I can place a 12" group at 30 feet, better if I take more time, but in a self defense situation, time is not on your side.Using the Crimson Trace, I can place the group into a 3" circle at 30 feet quickly and with little effort. For self defense purposes, this is as good as you might need it. A great benefit of this sight is that it quickly illustrates any issues you might have in 'sqeezing' the trigger. My wife wa pulling her shots, and this let us see that the way she squeezed the trigger pulled the gun down and left.
